Mawlynnong

Travel Plan : Guwahati-Tawang-Bomdila-Bhalukpong-Shillong-Mawlynnong
Travel Time : May 2015
Number of Travelers : 4

Mawlynnong,Cleanest Village in Asia,is in the state Meghalaya. We went to North east trip in the May of 2015.They say,why travel out of India to see the nature beauty when you have North eastern India more beautiful and naturally attractive. This is absolutely true,North East India is by far the most beautiful, pleasant trip we ever had.

We went to Assam,Arunachal Pradesh,Meghalaya. My husband and friends kept talking about Mawlynnong from the 1st day of this trip.I was all excited to see how the cleanest village of Asia looks. The road journey from Meghalaya to Mawlynnong is the best time I experienced. There is lot of greenery in many parts of india,Sikkim,Karnataka etc but ,the feel I got in road journey to Mawlynnong from Meghalaya is so relaxing and memorable.

I feel, not just me but whoever takes this trip gets energy and positive vibes from the environment itself.I am surely inspired by "Go-Green" and "Stay happy" methodology after seeing this place.

One of our friends asked Kiran,"We travel, get back to routine, travel, follow our routine again. Why are we Travelling at all?"I thought he would either stay quiet or smile but he replied immediately.

"We are gaining experiences in every trip and we transform ourselves at the end of every trip ,in more good way ,taking those experiences.Do we need any other reason to travel?"

I was impressed by that.Though you know some answers,it is more effective when you hear from others. So from there on,I started admiring the places and people I visit, learn something from them, treat the experiences of past and relate to my present routine.

We entered Mawlynnong and parked our car.It was neither cloudy nor sunny, all I could feel is the greenary and pleasantness around me.People in that village looked very shy.We understood it when we tried to capture some ladies doing their household work and planting trees,we asked for their approval of if we could take a photo of them but they were very shy and said no.We didn't want to trouble them and went ahead capturing nature beauty.

It was 2 pm when we were very hungry and came across a small Dhaba inside this village where the local villagers prepare their local special good and serve us for a reasonable price. That was only the good stop for us.So we ordered and got 4 meal plates served.Just when we started out lunch,a light drizzle fell on us and then a heavy rain.
Lovely was the experience to have a tasty lunch in beautiful environment in between water drizzle.
We took a small walk around the village again after lunch and started back.
This was when a local khasi guy (localities of khasi hills) was waiting for a pick up (lift) and our driver asked if we could offer him a place in our car.He was a guide and had helped many journalists and media people with the information of khasi people and state. He explained us many facts about tge m.Khasi people have their own tradition. They give importance to a daughter than a son.He also told us how the son in law moves to wife's hòuse after marriage and property transfer to daughter after father etc.

An interesting policy of Khasi people is ,they look alliances for children within their own village  (Mawlynnong) and doesn't accept any match outside the village because they believe this rule would bring in good to the village ,that the village remains clean and the same if their own people are in there forever. Not to be blamed if it's silly ,may be this is how they achieved to maintain the nature standard.
