First stop was at Amritsar. We landed in Amritsar on New year's day and was expecting the Hotel would be busy and not caring for too many guests. But we were impressed by the Hotel's quick service all the time. There were events for new year happening in the hotel and all the cake shops, streets busy with celebration. My husband ,with low hope ordered a birthday cake for just 2 hours before 12 am when the hotel guys said they couldnt arrange even a small pastry due to the busy celebrations going on the street and shops were out of stock for cakes. But the hotel staff did a great job, they brought the cake exactly at 12 am, a fresh, black forets cake.We are fans of chocolate ,but this cake satisfied our taste buds like any other till date.It was fresh and tasty. We couldn't stop having it again and again till we finished 3/4th of it.(Rest of cake was as fresh as first day ,the second day too and we couldn't resist from finishing it).
Golden temple |
We started to Amritsar Golden Temple, having heard about the temple a lot,I was very much excited to visit and take the environment's positive vibes into me.So,as all the other temple rules, dress code for Golden Temple is ,we have to dress properly ,head covered with scarf or shawl, knees covered with cloth, shoes removed,no photography and complete silence.
Difference is ,here ,in Amritsar Golden Temple, we have to strictly follow unlike in few indian temples the crowd misses one or few of rules due to reasons.I wouldn't even say , rules here are strict, but a great discipline is followed by the temple and devotees whoever comes.
Temple is very neat, quiet, you get all the religious vibes after entering into the temple.Like everyone,I did cover my head with scarf and it slipped down my head which I didn't notice. One devotee (aged around 60 ) come sto me and tells me politely, please dont be bare headed, you should cover your head with cloth,I immediately covered back :) and thanked him.

We stood in queue for darshan, there were no police nor temple staff managing devotees ,still each one in the temple and queue were disciplined and though we were behind the big queue of devotees ,we finished our darshan very fast just because of individual's discipline. We were talking after coming back to hotel if all the temples could follow the same maintenance, discipline and sincerity.

The next stop was Wagah Border , on January 1st.We missed the first row of seats but nevertheless to mention the experience in Flag Ceremony that is a military practice everyday here. The ceremony along with people's disperse took around 3 hours.Since the male and female seating arrangement is seperate,we were confused as to where to meet after dispersal,so somehow We both were lost ,finally started back to gate, decided to search for him in car parking. On the way,i kept trying for phone signal ,which ofcourse is dead in the border surroundings, just then I saw my husband walking towards gate, ran to him and I didn't see a bit of pressure in him 😖.I didn't have the driver's phone number nor remember the car number :o .Haha,it was an adventure ,the post flag ceremony.
But Wagah border is a must visit ,atleast to respect our military and encourage them, feel proud of the nation.
Dharmasala |
After Wagah Border ,was Dharmasala,It was mind blowing to see Manali Hills, covered with fog from Dharmasala was really beautiful.Starting from Amritsar, our trip ended in Dalhoussie.I dont want to mix up the mood of wagah border with continuation of other stop so here is my dalhoussie experience.
